Cedar to Aspire To

Following my post on my Cedar problems Adam sent me links to the following pics of Cedars that have been grown and trained by Jim Gremel of Dawn Meadow Bonsai

 Green Atlas Cedar

This is a Green Atlas Cedar

Follow this link for more pics of this tree  http://www.jimgremel.com/greenatlas2003-2.html

I think these are very impressive trees and well photograped. Thanks for the links Adam. These trees were grown and developed from scratch by Jim Gremel

Good find Michael, that first one is an absolute cracker! A great image.

  2. Yes Ian, an absolute cracker. Makes me wonder what I’m doing futterin about with some rubbish.

So to give you guys a little more info. He starts by grafting shoots of whatever verity onto root stock (deodar I think?) and then grows them in the ground for up to 10 years. After that, all the branches that are too fat (a lot of them) are cut off, and all the branches that are too long with only foliage at the ends (the rest of them) have new grafts put on the interior. After that, it’s just a simple matter of 5-10 more years of branch development. Or you can take the easy route and just buy one of his trees, if you have a few thousand dollars to burn… Until that day comes, I’ll be a futterin’ fool myself.
