Tanuki Juniper

The trees will soon be going into the greenhouse for winter protection and now seems a good time to review the progress made in the past year. This little tree is beginning to shape up nicely as the foliage pads begin to fill out after this years trimming and wiring. I’m reasonably happy with it.

There is an ugly scar where I was a little exuberant when attaching the original sapling to the old wood.  I was considering splitting the trunk from the swelling down to below soil level and the prising the  split apart to form two separate veins. Hopefully these would then merge together with time as fresh scar tissue forms.
